That Wonderful Day Of Pentecost!
(Suggested reading-Acts chapter 2)
It was a day of gathering in Jerusalem for God fearing Jews. Jesus had told His Apostles to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. He told them that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit had come upon them, power to be witnesses of His claim to be the Messiah. They waited, and on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came upon them!
It takes a message, and it takes a messenger to deliver the message, if news
is going to get out. If you were to open a pizza shop and you made the best
pizza on earth, all your efforts would be without effect, if not one person came
to try your great product. The point is simple, God has always used messengers
to deliver His message to sinful man! You can go back to Moses, we all know God
gave him the ten commandments. God also spoke through Moses to give us the
entire first 5 books of the Bible, the book of the law. The
You and I are dependent on the Messiah for our redemption from sin! Without the Messiah, we would be headed for eternal damnation! The day of Pentecost is so very important because it was more than the Jewish tradition of observing this day, as prescribed in the law. On this day, God fearing Jews from every nation under heaven, were gathered in Jerusalem. It was on this day that the Holy Spirit came and the messengers began to deliver the message, Jesus Christ is the promise Messiah! The messengers, as were instructed by Jesus, were in Jerusalem.
One might ask, why the day of Pentecost? and why did Jesus tell his people to wait in Jerusalem, after all, it was the Jews who sent Jesus to die on the cross. Consider the God fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. Acts 2:10 tells us that about 3000 souls trusted in Jesus as the Messiah. Imagine that, God has a plan and His plan is to rescue people from sin punishment. By spreading the message on the day of Pentecost, He appointed about 3000 more messengers to take the message that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and to take that message back to their homes, back to their families, their neighbors and everyone else they had contact with. It is very likely, that the message was taken back to every nation under heaven
The day of Pentecost, the day God sent about 3000 people to tell the world! Here we are today, reading this message and far from Jerusalem! It is over 2000 years later and the truth continues to be told, Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the grave 3 days later! The message is today as it was on the day of Pentecost, "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
