James, a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ!

A great verse to start with, verse one!  James acknowledges his role as a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Yes, a servant!  Going into the study of any Scripture requires the right attitude before God - that of a servant.  What do I mean by servant?  A servant is submissive to his Master.  A servant learns from his Master and he does his Master's will.  Do you think of yourself as a servant?  Are you willing to be submissive and learn from the Lord?

As our introduction stated, James is writing to Christians.  If I am to call myself a Christian, this means that I acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  To define this, the title Lord is just that, a title.  It is an acknowledgement that the person you refer to as your Lord, has authority over you.  Your boss at work, although you may not refer to your boss as lord, their position is one that has authority over you when you are on the job.

Jesus Christ is Lord, we serve not just a lord, we serve THE Lord.  He is the Lord of lords and King of kings.  So if you have never thought of Jesus as Lord of your life, now is a good time to make that decision and trust Him as Lord!  Jesus is not only the Savior who paid the price for yours sins, but He is Lord of your life.  This means that you intend on doing your best to seek Him for direction, wisdom and understanding on how to live a life pleasing to God!

Here's how the Apostle Paul put it in Romans 10:9, “That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised Him for the dead, you will be saved.”  Now here is what Jesus said as recorded in the Gospel according to John, chapter 8, verses 31 & 32 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  And in Acts 2:21, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Look at Acts 2:26, “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this:  God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”  Acts 10:36 “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”

So these are just a few verses to support that Jesus Christ is Lord.  The question for you today is simply this, is Jesus Christ your Lord?  I hope He is, and if so, I know you will enjoy studying His Word!  I pray that those who read this will be blessed because they have made Jesus Christ both Savior and Lord.

As you move into the next lesson(s) do it with the same attitude James had when he wrote this wonderful letter, packed with wisdom for living to please God.  You will be blessed!
