Daily Proverb - Proverbs, Chapter 11

"One man gives feely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty"

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed"

If you practice the principal of giving, you know that these verses are so true!  Yet in the natural man, he may think that giving some of what he has, will cause him to be without.  Godly wisdom is much different than man's wisdom.  The bible states that the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God (1 Corinthians 3:19).   If you look at verse 25 of chapter 11, you can see that those who refresh others, are themselves refreshed.  This verse also states that a generous person will prosper, this  contradicts the foolish ways of most people.

As I worked on this page today, my phone rang, as it often does.  It was a man soliciting a donation for a good organization.  I like helping good organizations but realize that I cannot help them all, or could I?  Well as a Christian man, I should know that it isn't a question of money, it is a question of doing what is right.  There are many organizations that I will not help!  If their practices and principals contradict the way of the Lord, I do not want to help.  I do not want to help the pro-choice organizations because I am pro-life, I am convinced that God is pro-life!  It is okay to say no in such a circumstance.  But in contrast, if a pro-life organization wants my help, I need to help.

Well how about you?  Have you been like many people, not very generous?  The good news, it is never too late to change!  If you find security in your bank account, read verse 28.   I find that generous people seem to have great joy and peace.   I like Psalm 37:25  "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread".
