Daily Proverb - Proverbs, Chapter 14

"Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips"

When God wants us to remember something, He repeats it for us!  The above verse gives us yet another warning to stay away from fools!  Not only will you not find knowledge in a fool, look at verse 16, "but a fool is hotheaded and reckless".  Many warnings are found in the bible about staying away from the wrong people.  Remember that evil company corrupts good morals!  Do you have a fool for a friend?  Don't be so foolish, time to make new friends!

"A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated"

I can attest to the truth of this verse, because I have been that quick-tempered man, more than once.  I wish I could take back the terrible words I spoke, at times when I was angry!!!  Letting loose the emotions that anger sometimes has is very painful because it leads to evil behavior.  An apology is good and asking for forgiveness is often necessary.  But we all know that it would have been best if we would not have let our emotions fly off the handle.  When I was a child we had a saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" - children say foolish things!  There is no truth in that little poem is there.  Words do hurt, they leave scars on the people we love the most.  Someone once gave me some advice, they advised me that sometimes it is best to just take a deep breath before you fly off the handle.  In other words, don't be a quick-tempered man!

"A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly"

Which would you prefer, to have great understanding, or to display folly?  I know that self control can be very difficult!  Pray to the Lord for His glory in your life, by helping you each moment of the day.  Oh God, help us to be understanding, we cannot do this without your grace!
