Daily Proverb - Proverbs,
Chapter 23
"Who has woe? Who
has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has
needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger
over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when
it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the
end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see
strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things. You will be like
one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. "They hit me,"
you will say, "but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When
will I wake up so I can find another drink?""
As one who had a
relationship with booze or wine, bear, liquor, etc. I can know how true the
above verses are! I wish I could be one of those wise people who never
fell for the lie, but I fell for it! It was before God drew me to
Him, and I trusted Jesus as my Savior, that I was involved with this life style.
I was like most people, it was simply part of my social life. Where I had
lived most of my life, this was the culture, it was the religion and was
acceptable to most people. I thought it was good, but I can honestly say
today, all the above verses are true. Too much drink can cause a fool to
do much harm to himself and others. We all know this is true because it is
all around us. If those who have killed, while allowing themselves to be
controlled by drink, would have read and believed these Proverbs, their lives
would have been so much better! Keep in mind that they would not have
killed if it wasn't for the booze, THEY chose to drink! Others would still
be alive today. I saw with my own eyes the death of a mother of several
children. She was out for a night of joy and so was the man driving the
car she was riding in. He is still alive today but she died in the front
seat, at a young age. Her children had to grow up, without their loving
mother to care for them. How sad it is when a fool is given wine!
Look around you, read the papers, listen to the news, people suffer great loss
and for what? Needless bruises, bloodshot eyes, death !!! Seems crazy, here is
the Word of God, giving you wisdom for daily living, why not listen!
"Who has woe? Who
has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has
needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger
over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine."
Who has died? Who
has gone to jail? Who has lived without loved ones? etc, etc, etc!
