Daily Proverb - Proverbs,
Chapter 29
"Mockers stir up a city,
but wise men turn away anger"
"A fool gives full vent
to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control"
Two very interesting verses
here, because they compare the wise to the mocker and the fool. We see the
mockers, as those who stir up a city, and fools give full vent to anger.
In contrast, the wise men turn away anger and have self control. If you
had to be stranded on an island with a small group of people, which would you
prefer? I know that I would hope that there weren't any mockers and fools!
The wise look like a good choice for me. I wouldn't want to be around
people who stir my anger and get me to vent! I know that I, a sinful man,
have the ability to be moved and to move others in a way that is not good. I
like the idea of a wise person near me who according to verse 8, turns
away anger. I need someone who is good at that, because often I need help
to keep from venting and saying all those stupid words that hurt others.
How about you, which do you prefer, someone to sooth you or someone to stir you?
And which do you want to be, the foolish mocker or the wise who turns away
anger?
"An angry man stirs up
dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins"
"A man's pride brings him
low but a man of lowly spirit gains honor"
If you have ever been
hot-tempered, you know the truth, you have committed many sins! Ask God to make
you wise, ask Him for wisdom right now, go ahead and pray. A favorite
verse is James 1:5 which tells us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God who
gives generously. Now is a good time to ask God to make you wise and help
you with self control. While you are praying, pray for me too, I need His
wisdom too, be sure that we all do. None of us will ever be what we truly want
to be, Godly people, full of grace, truth and wisdom, unless we are blessed by
God!
Too proud to pray for
wisdom? Do you think it is others who need to do this, because you know
you are always right? "pride brings him low". Ask God to take your
pride away and become dependent on Him!
"Listen to
advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise."
