Daily Proverb - Proverbs,
Chapter 7
"With persuasive words
she led him astray;"
I always enjoy the
introduction to each chapter of Proverbs! Always packed with encouragement
to continue seeking wisdom and remembering God's commands. Verse 4 and 5
move into the sin of adultery, yet again.
4Say
to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman; 5they
will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive
words.
If you have never read
through all 31 chapters of Proverbs, you might start to think that almost every
chapter warns of adultery. Well you will find that this is not so.
But to see three chapters, one after the other, warn us of adultery, you get the
idea that God understands how real and destructive this sin is! If you
take a few minutes and think about all the problems that come from this sin, it
isn't hard to see that this is seriously painful.
Look at verse 21 and go
back to verse 7 and read through to the end. The reason I recommend this
is because as you consider the tool the adulterous woman used, you will see it
in action as you go back and start reading at verse 8. This adulterous
woman dresses to appeal to the mans eye. She is brazen and kisses this
young, simple man who lacks judgment (see verses 7 and 13). She moves to
using that persuasive tongue also, telling him about her home and bed (see
verses 14-18). Then she is even bold enough to tell the simple, young man,
she is married but her husband left her alone. The young and simple man
follows her "like an ox going to slaughter", not knowing, it will cost him his
life!
Now at the conclusion of
this chapter, comes the warning .....
24Now then, my
sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. 25Do not let
your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. 26Many are
the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. 27Her
house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
I hope it served as
a warning to you too! When you face this temptation, RUN!!!
